How very interesting! (To my mom, that is. I already knew all this.) I can detect a feast coming out of the meat locker. Does that count?

My mom once had a bird whose mate died, and this young, healthy bird (Bean) began to die immediately after. He developed infections, organs ceased functioning, and his gizzard became impacted with mold. The only way she was able to save him was by finding another bird to bond to. Once Reggie was introduced, Bean was strong and healthy again within days, when human medicine was failing him miserably before. The vet had told her this was normal behavior, and it's not uncommon for parrots to die from a "broken heart."

We animals are pretty amazing, aren't we?
